Taxifolin is a dietary supplement containing Dahurian Larch standardised to 90% dihydroquercetin, another name for taxifolin. Its antioxidant properties make it one of the supplements that support cardiovascular health most popular supplements in our catalogue.
Better known as dihydroquercetin, taxifolin is a flavonoid found in milk-thistle, onions, maritime pine bark, Scots pine and Dahurian Larch (1). The supplement Taxifolin is made from the latter.
Like other flavonoids, it is able to both chelate metal ions and neutralise free radicals, due to the presence of the hydroxyl group (OH) bound to its aromatic nucleus.
A proven antioxidant(2), at least three times more effective than quercetin (3), with which it shares many similarities, taxifolin has been the subject of over 600 studies over the last 50 years, most of which have examined its efficacy, safety and mechanisms of action on the vascular system (4). These studies, which focus on its potential to inhibit oxidation of LDL cholesterol and to reduce blood viscosity (5), have significantly expanded our understanding of this flavonoid though they have not yet resulted in a scientific consensus as to its therapeutic use.
Taxifolin is designed for the following groups of people in particular:
Venous insufficiency is characterised by changes to vein walls which lead to the formation of varicose veins and valve dysfunction. It manifests in poor blood flow in the veins. It primarily affects the legs which become heavy, painful and swollen as blood pools in them. Sometimes, it results in the permanent formation of unsightly varicose veins: these damaged veins are blueish, twisted, and bulging in appearance.
The tablets should be swallowed, chewed or sucked two to three times a day, with, or just after, a meal, for a period of three to four weeks. Supplementation can be repeated every three months if necessary.
To reinforce the effects of Taxifolin, it is advisable to adopt the following measures throughout the supplementation period:
